Tributes paid to bar owner and businessman

September 1, 2021

Staff at Stanley’s Bar and Kitchen have paid tribute to the “lovely” owner following his sudden death.

Mike Medden passed away on August 12 at the age of 66, just a day and a half after he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, according to a Just Giving page organised in his honour.

The page launched by Mike Turner, says “Mike passed away peacefully early on Thursday morning, 12th August 2021, less than a day and a half after receiving a diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. “He never regained consciousness after his diagnosis.”

He leaves behind his wife, Susan, children, Andrea and Gary, and five grandchildren, as well as two sisters. Mr Medden was originally from Deptford, London but moved to Goole 34 years ago. He converted the former Yorkshire Bank into Stanley’s Bar and Kitchen in March 2020, and operated a freight solutions company, MMC Logistics, both located on Carlisle Street.

Ellie Davidson, bar manager, said: “Mike loved Goole and wanted it to thrive. “Staff at Stanley’s loved Mike and his passion. He will be remembered by us all and deeply missed.” Jay Brown, deputy manager at Stanley’s, said: “Mike was a lovely man with an amazing heart who could not do enough for us all. “He helped me personally many times without question.”

At the time Goole Times went to print, the JustGiving page in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK had raised £555. The target is £2,000. To donate, visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/michaelmedden?utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR0YUWKxT5QlTV93ZpSkn53LwzKNevkEZ1CF-35HLrgSGAmJAc_9z19b1hA.
